CrossFit has revealed that Albany, New York, will host the 2025 CrossFit Games at MVP Arena from August 1–3.
“The CrossFit Games represent the culmination of our season and an important moment for our community to come together to celebrate its shared love for CrossFit,” CrossFit CEO Don Faul stated in a press release.
What’s New in CrossFit for 2025
The decision follows a challenging year in Fort Worth, Texas, where the 2024 Games took place. That event was marred by controversy and the tragic death of beloved athlete Lazar Ðukić, prompting the relocation. Faul highlighted the Northeast, particularly New York, as home to a “large and passionate community of affiliates,” making Albany an ideal location.
“We expect Albany to be the perfect place to convene our entire community. We are excited to partner with the City of Albany and MVP Arena to showcase the best of the sport,” Faul added.
The press release emphasized the venue’s accessibility, with Albany International Airport nearby.
Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy expressed enthusiasm for the event:“We’re excited to welcome the CrossFit Games to the MVP Arena. This is an amazing opportunity to host incredible athletes from around the world and showcase an emerging sport and fitness regimen. The three-day event is a fantastic opportunity to bring new visitors to the Capital Region and our capital city of Albany.”
Changes to the 2025 CrossFit Games Season
CrossFit also recently released the 2025 rulebook for the Games season. The Open kicks off on February 27, and notable changes include the elimination of the Quarterfinal stage. Instead, the top 1% of Open athletes will advance directly to Semifinals, which will primarily be held online.
The last venue of the CrossFit Games
Dallas-Fort Worth will always be remembered as the location where Lazar Dukic passed away, an event that made global headlines and remains an unresolved case. Now, the event organizers will be relocating and will work on improving safety measures to prevent a fitness competition from becoming the center of attention once again due to a tragedy.
